Located along the Penampang-Papar old road.it consists of two components:zoological and botanical.Among the inhabitants of the zoo are  the Borneo Pygmy elephants,Proboscis monkey,Malayan tiger as well as some species of deer.The botanical component features jungle trekking along the botanical trail.

2. KK WETLAND CENTER

Formerly known as the Kota Kinabalu City Bird Sanctuary,the KK Wetland sits on a 24 hectares of mangrove forest 10 minutes from the city at Likas. Inside,there is a 1.5 boardwalk that bring you deep into the mangrove.A unique ecosystem where land meets sea.Designed as  a bird sanctuary in 1996,it still is an important refuge and feeding ground for many species today.

3. KLIAS RIVER CRUISE

The intriguing life of Borneo’s wetlands can be experienced on a half-day trip (returning after dinner) to Klias Peninsular,about 2 hours south of Kota Kinabalu. Borneo’s endemic proboscis monkey is the star of the swamps,joined by colorful birds and even twinkling fireflies at dusk.

4. KIPANDI BUTTERFLY PARK

Nestled within the rolling hills of the Crocker Range is a sanctuary that houses not only a colorful array of butterflies but native orchids,blooming hoyas,carnivorous pitcher plants and more than 3000 recorded beetles.Located 36 km from the city center and 700 meters above sea level,walk the cool grounds of Kampung Kipandi,Moyong and explore what the park has to offer.

5. KINABALU PARK-MALAYSIA’S FIRST WORLD HERITAGE SITE

A must visit if u going to Sabah. The Kinabalu Park covers a staggering area of 754 sq.km,from the Park headquarters area all the way to Poring Hot Springs 40 kilometers away and northwards to Mandalon,almost reaching the Kudat Highway.Just imagine this,it’s bigger than Singapore.Established as a state park in 1964,this botanical paradise is blessed with an astonishing variety of flora and fauna that ranges over 4 climate zones.Highways and sealed roads have made the Park easily accessible,and is a mere 2 hours drive from Kota Kinabalu. Temperature ranges from 18 to 20 degrees,so pack warmly.

6.TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN MARINE PARK

The marine park is a cluster of Five islands- Pulau Gaya,Pulau Sapi,Pulau Manukan,Pulau Mamutik and Pulau Sulug about 20 minutes by speedboat from the city.Take a dip in the waters for a snorkel,a dive or sea walking.Or stay on the shore and bask in the sun with a picnic basket.The largest of the islands,Pulau Gaya is partly privately owned and there is a lovely resort of floating chelets,the Gayana Resort,which also undertakes a Reef Project.Manukan is the second largest island,and has accommodations and restaurant facilities on its grounds.
